2014 Chevy Impala may not impress individual buyers

Chevrolet introduced its 2014 Impala, a four-door, five-passenger full-size sedan in San Diego, California recently.  Chevy expects that most will go to commercial fleets and as rentals.

The 2014 Impala comes in 2.4-liter 4-cylinder, 2.5-liter 4-cylinder and 3.6-liter V6.  The 6-speed automatic transmission Impala power ranges from 184hp to 305hp for the V6.  Smaller engines deliver 25/35 city/highway mileage while the V6 delver only 19/29 city/highway.  Rear seats provide more room while the trunk space seems enormous.  Chevy has taken extra steps to provide a quiet cabin with triple sealed doors and acoustic foam baffles.  Impala is safe and quiet with decent brakes but not many like its leather like interior.  Chevy claims that two front seats provides “dual cockpit” but appears that Impala buck the open front seat trend that other manufacturers are providing.  The “MyLink” is intended to provide “connectivity” for the driver, an attempt by Chevy to lure younger buyers.  Some say it is overkill.  But car reviewers think it will not bring young customers to dealerships.

The 2014 Impala price range from $27,535 to $41,000.  BMW 3-series, Hyundai Genesis, and some Lexus models are in the same upper price range and comparatively provide better value for the money.
