Important Dates To Remember When Thinking Of REAL IDs

Article submitted by Delta Driving School.

October 1, 2020 is an important date that every traveler should mark on their calendars and try to remember. It is on this date that across the country you will need to have a REAL ID in order to fly anywhere.

As is stands right now, you do not need a REAL ID when flying from somewhere in the U.S. to somewhere else in the U.S., only if you plan on getting on a flight that takes you outside of the country. At the end of 2020, however, you will need this REAL ID even when flying inside the country from one part of a state to another part of the same state.

The first date that you want to remember in connection to the history of REAL IDs is 9/11. It was this terrorist attack that started thoughts plans of how to make security tighter, not only for airports and flying but for travelers in general.

It wasn’t until 2005 that the REAL ID ACT was passed by Congress which put the REAL ID in motion. This is the Act that established what the requirements would be to get a REAL ID and focused on fraud prevention, identification, and anti-terrorism.

As the time has gotten closer to the October 1, 2020 deadline, more parts of it have come into play and it has become increasingly necessary to have a REAL ID. Considering how many people will be getting theirs at the last minute don’t wait until then to get yours.
