One of the most affordable SUVs in the market is the Mazda CX-5. It is affordable because it cost less than $30,000. It is more efficient because it can deliver 35 miles per gallon on highway and 26 MPG in the city. It is more functional, carries a higher safety rating and comes with a well-built interior. It falls into the compact or crossover SUV category.

A 2.5-liter engine is standard but provides a strong acceleration. Five-passenger vehicle is available in Touring, Sport and Grand Touring trim lines. Base Sport comes with 17-inch wheels, air conditioning, full-power accessories, height adjustable driver seat, tilting steering wheel, cruise control and many other features. Most models are equipped with Bluetooth packages and four-speakers and a CD player.

The CX-5 Sport’s 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine delivers 155 horsepower while Touring and Grand Touring models come with standard 2.5-liter engine that delivers 184 horsepower. 0 to 60 can be reached in 8 to 9.7 seconds with most models. While antilock brakes are standard with all models the CX-5 is rated with five stars for overall and IIHS rating of “Good.”

Competitors include Honda CR-V, Ford Escape, Toyota RAV4, Subaru Forester and Jeep Cherokee. The latter two are good for off-road excursions too.
