Now, a mobike that is powered by compressed air

WASHINGTON: A motorcycle that is powered by compressed air has been developed by researchers at the National Central University in Taiwan.

Yu-Ta Shen and Yean-Ren Hwang, the researchers behind this discovery, say that such motorcycles may prove very helpful in fighting air pollution.

They have revealed that the current prototype can hold a little more than two and a half gallons of compressed air, which would carry the bike and driver about three-quarters of a mile.

Toyota Corolla Altis To Be Launched In September 5

Go back a few years.. say like, 3-4 years, when the Honda Civic was not born. The Toyota Corolla totally ruled the segment. Some said that no other car can get near it. New Ford Ikon Diesel – Facelift

Yes, another facelift from Ford. Old news, but its still a news. The Ikon started off like the Fiesta did, got great response, made it a “drivers” car and became a common sight in the road, being the luxury car at that time. The Ford Ikon will be getting a facelift and will be entering the market soon. This facelift is similar to the Fiesta’s, where only the frontal part is worked out and the rear is left the same.

The interior style is being changed a little, like new seat fabrics, revamped instrument clusters and new dials. The front part of the car gets new European styled headlights and a Fiesta-like nose and an all new bumper with fog lights. The rear gets clear tail lamps.

2009 Ford Fiesta – Made in Cologne!

Ford has started making the all new Ford Fiesta, which is the 2009 version in Cologne, Germany. The Cologne factory, in which ford had invested $674 million to modernize it. In this plant, Ford will be able to make up 1,48,000 Fiesta by the end of the year.

Ford has plans for a small car in India, which most propably would be the Ford Ka or a car based on the Ka’s platform. But what a great idea would be introducing the Fiesta hatch at 5-6 Lakh range and add up a diesel engine that will compete with the Fabia and the upcoming Honda Jazz.

M&M to enter US market with diesel-powered trucks

MUMBAI: Utility vehicle major Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) is readying its Plan B to enter the US market with its diesel-powered trucks and SUVs, where gasoline guzzlers are currently facing a slowdown. Plan A being a keen interest to acquire the Hummer brand at the “right price”. M&M may face tough competition from Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska to acquire Hummer. GM is also in talks with potential buyers for Hummer in China too. However, it has not put the brand on auction yet.

When contacted, GM and M&M officials declined to comment. Deripaska, which owns Russian automaker Gaz, was also interested in Chrysler and the British brands Jaguar and Land Rover from Ford Motor. Incidentally, Hummer has a strong brand presence in Russia and China unlike in the European and the US markets, where consumers are focusing on more fuel-efficient small cars.

Argentum to drive French carmaker

NEW DELHI: Delhi-based automobile company Argentum Motors, which has taken over the erstwhile Daewoo Motors plant in Surajpur (UP) to start contract manufacturing business in India, has announced the acquisition of French automaker Heuliez SA with an investment of e25 million for an initial 60% stake.

Besides Argentums investment, French company re-organisation board Caisse des Dts et Consignations (CDC) has also committed an investment of e5 million for the troubled Heuliez, which had been facing financial problems. Argentum Motors signed definitive documents for the acquisition on Wednesday in France.

Bangalore company to launch electric scooter, eyes US market

BANGALORE : Bangalore-based EKO Vehicle Private Limited is all set to launch its second product, EV 60 electric scooter, and said it would commence export of battery-operated two-wheelers to the US market from January.

The pollution-free EV 60 is priced at Rs 39,600 and slated for launch next month, the company’s Chairman Anil Ananthakrishna told reporters here.

Set up in January 2005, the company has so far sold more than 15,000 units of its first product under the brandname Cosmic and Velociti. “We have orders to deliver (another) 100,000 units”.

Mahindra will talk to Chrysler on Scorpio design?

Mumbai, There is no dispute between Mahindra and Mahindra and US automaker Chrysler on the issue of Scorpio design, a spokesperson for the company said.

However, a source close to company said the Indian company will talk to the US automaker as there were media reports that Chrysler may take legal action against Mahindra for copying the design of its iconic model, Jeep.

Scorpio has been around since 2002 and there has been no controversy so far. Therefore, these reports are hard to comprehend, said a company source. The entire controversy must be viewed in the context of reports that Chrysler is in talks with Tata Motors and Fiat, he said.

Hero Electric to foray into overseas market

CHANDIGARH: Bike maker Hero Electric has decided to foray into overseas market starting with exports of e-bikes to SAARC countries this year and also plans to set up a new greenfield assembly unit.

“We have plans to export 4,000-5,000 units of bikes this year to SAARC countries to tap overseas markets,” Hero Electric Managing Director Naveen Munjal said here.

Stating that the company would have exclusive dealers in the neighbouring countries for its exports project, he said, “Initially export will account for 15-16 per cent of total sales.”

Two official pictures of the Suzuki A-star (known as the new Alto) has been released. The new Alto will make its debut at the Paris Motor Show in the month of October. The new Alto, though called by its name will sell alongside the current alto, like how the current Alto and the previous Alto (M800) is doing.
