SINGUR: Residents in Singur in West Bengal, who were once unhappy with setting up of the Tata factory in their area, are today thanking the authorities for having opened up new earning avenues for them.
They working as daily labourers around the factory are happy to earn a respectable livelihood through various employment avenues generated by the factory.
“Earlier, I was into farming, but now I have bought a car which is though broken but has giving me better earning than before. Now my per-day earning is 70-100 rupees,” said Anil, a van driver.

NEW DELHI: Mahindra & Mahindra on Monday said it has formed a joint venture with Chinese tractor manufacturer Jiangsu Yueda Yancheng.
The homegrown auto major would invest 26 million dollar in the joint venture firm — Mahindra Yueda Yancheng Tractor — where M&M would hold 51 per cent stake, while the rest would be with the Chinese partner.

SEOUL: Hyundai Motor Co is considering introducing its i10 model, a small hatchback produced in India, to the US market to meet rising demand for small cars amid higher oil prices, a company official said on Monday.
“We are considering launching the i10 (in the United States) as more customers are looking for smaller cars. But we have not made a final decision yet as we are still studying logistics costs and various technical issues,” the official told media by telephone, asking not to be identified.

NEW DELHI: A faulty air-conditioner compressor of a CR-V has landed Japanese carmaker Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI) into trouble. The Karnataka state consumer commission has asked the vehicle manufacturer to pay a compensation of Rs 1,00,000 to a complainant in Bangalore.
With this order, HSCI’s reputation as a reliable carmaker takes a serious hit since this is the second time in three months that the auto firm has been ordered to cough up compensations by various consumer courts across the country.

NEW DELHI: It’s going to be a tough ride for Bajaj Auto, one of the oldest two-wheeler makers of the country. While the company has drawn up an ambitious plan to roll out a Tata Nano-type low-cost car, for time being, it needs to fight out a constant erosion of market share in bread-and-butter motorcycle segment.
And it’s a matter of concern for Bajaj Auto, considering the fact that bigger rival Hero Honda is gaining ground.
Bajaj, which at one time was closing in on Hero Honda, has seen its grip on the bike market going down by close to 6% in just 15 months. Its share slipped to 28.7% at the end of 2007-08 and further down to 26% at the end of the first quarter (April-June) of 2008-09, from 31.7% in 2006-07.

Yamaha is regaining its popularity. But not everyone noticed the other bike standing next to the YZFR15 in the Yamaha stall during the autoshow.

Yes, the first time I saw this car i too thought that this was the Lamborghini Reventon. This car is from Veno Automotive, which is from Poland. This company is controlled by private equity fund Heros Capital, originated from the UK. It is a new company, starting off to compete with majors like Lamborghini and Ferrari. The name is not revealed yet, so gotta put some stylish name.

Hybrid vehicles are powered by petroleum on the highway and by electricity in town, saving considerably energy. A hybrid propulsion system stores energy released by braking in a battery.
The electric motor uses this current during the start-up, yielding tremendous savings, particularly in urban traffic. But hybrid technology has always been plagued by the energy storage problem.
